I have not been able to fast since I developed ulcer (due to my excess use of pain relievers) I feel this horrible guilt because overtime I usually fast every Wednesday, but mehn, it has not been easy. I try to fast, but before 10am, I feel like my stomach will hurt me and I end up eating. Please what can I do.
Thank you for reaching out.
Fasting is for personal spiritual growth. A situation where the flesh is put in submission to the Spirit man. One of the highest forms of spiritual discipline.
You fast to seek God’s face and not His hand and so there is no need to feel guilty.
To be honest God does not want you to feel guilty about anything. Wondering how I know this? LOL it’s in your Bible!
Ever read Romans 8:1? Where my bible students at?!!!!
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Haha I play too much, but it’s true.
Down to the issue of you experiencing difficulty fasting; I’ll approach it from 3 contexts:
1. You cannot do it by yourself: Fasting like every other spiritual exercise cannot be done by the natural human power or will because it is our nature to desire food, and in a case as peculiar as yours, a medical condition that needs you to eat makes it even more difficult. So it’s best to allow God do what he does best through his Spirit which is ‘to work within us both to ‘Will’ and to ‘Do’ of his good pleasure. So you need to let God know how much you want to develop and grow your Spirit man and then start feeding your Spirit with the food of the Spirit. The word of God, worship, fellowship, prayer and eventually fasting will come easy! I remember when I was in uni and I desired to grow and fast. I remember that the night before, I would discuss with God and tell him my plans for the fast, how long I want to do it for and then ask him to take control. I discovered that it worked perfectly for me.
2. Start Small: You can start your fast by skipping breakfast and eat lunch at 10am or 12 noon since the fast is solely for spiritual growth whatever period you have set however small, consciously dedicate that time to read or listen to the word (Audio bible for the win, messages and sermons on whatever you want to develop in) or worship/pray in the spirit. The devil is a coward, he will flee with his phobia of pain and gradually you will discover that you are growing. I have also heard from someone that if you drink warm water when you break your fast it helps, but I don’t know how true it is. However, if you feel any pain please discontinue and continue to feed your Spirit through the word, worship, prayer and fellowship.
3. Believe that God can heal you of Ulcer: One very important way of growing in the spirit is by consciously desiring the manifestation of God’s power. 2 Timothy 2:6 says that the husbandman that labors must be the first partaker of the fruits. This means that if you labor to grow spiritually, it is okay to desire a manifestation in your life first. By this, you will share your testimonies and others will receive their healing too. I am a sterling example of this. God heals, and he can heal you too.
I believe strongly that your healing is sure, and God will crown your desires with power to overcome.
I join my faith with yours and anyone else reading this and desiring a touch of healing from God.
I decree by the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells in me, that God will begin to work with and through you all to his good pleasures and your healing shall be made perfect in the mighty name of Jesus.
and the Church shall say????????
Feel free to reach out to me if you have further clarifications and I will be more than willing to keep the conversation going.
