Apologies for not sharing in such a long time…..I pray for grace to write more.
As I thought through the topic of this write up, I had a flashback to a particular scene in one of my most amazing movies of all time ‘Hacksaw Ridge’
PS: If you have not seen it biko what are you waiting for!!!!
I suggest you run around to your nearest movie plug or go online, rent it and see it!
OK back to my post now!!
Cue story telling mode!
Set in the middle of WWII A platoon of fresh recruits who had just gone through a ‘rigorous’ crash course of Physical and Mental training were finally deployed to the battle front; as they stepped into the camp they were met by a convoy of trucks carrying the wounded and immediately you could see a change in the disposition of these men who were initially joyful and cheering ‘Hoorahs’. What happened next, no amount of ‘rigorous’ training could have prepared them for it, a truck full of dead people some badly mutilated went by, the further transformation in their disposition could not be hidden. The reality of the battle had set in, I could imagine thoughts such as ‘this could be me in a few minutes’ flying through their minds.
They had underestimated the battle field – good thing they got some form of training but in spite of this no amount of training was enough to prepare them for what lay ahead.
This brings me to the anchor scripture for this write up – 2 Corinthians 10v3-5
3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
As Christians we have tendencies to get distracted by the things of this world because we are in this world and then this begins to affect our assumptions of the battles that lay ahead of us. We begin to assume the only battles we have to fight are tweet fights and slay wars on Instagram, the truth is there are so many distractions to the spiritual warfare we are in the middle of after-all – ‘we are what we see’.
The reality however is that our warfare as Christians is not physical…as that scripture clearly points out it is more mental. A battle of the mind! The devil attacks us first mentally, though the influences may be physical say for example ‘Things are not going well with your family or you are seeking the fruit of the womb and everything you have tried seems to not be working out…the devil begins to use people and situations to influence your mindset and so you begin to lose faith and trust in God. You don’t trust prayers anymore and you begin to seek diabolic solutions to your challenge.
‘This is me pulling out my inner daddy G.O – lol bear with me’
As christians we need to guard our hearts and strengthen our minds to be prepared for the reality of the warfare that we are in. #DropsMic
#PicksMicBackUp sorry! Message has not finished!
This scripture captures the very essence of what our response should be to the devil’s antics
Prov 4v23 More than anything you guard, protect your mind, for life flows from it.
And believe it the devil knows our mind is the river of life and if he feels it with darkness and snuffs out the light that should erstwhile produce life we will be left with nothing else but carnal weapons.
So instead of starting rant bants on whether or not to tithe, we should each reach out to the holy spirit to continuously remind us of our nature in Christ Jesus and the importance of having a mindset of a warrior.
A warrior no matter his training is always prepared for anything in the face of battle – He/She would not say ‘oh we were not trained on this kind of battle so I will not fight it’ we all know how that soldier would end up. A soldier continues to prepare him/herself for the day of battle.
A famous quote by the great philosopher and Pastor Idris Belo-Osagie
Wait for it…………………………………………….
‘You don’t prepare for battle in the day of battle’
simply saying we as Christians (Soldiers of Christ and Warriors of the Gospel) must be prepared for battle at all times because the Kingdom of darkness is continually warring against the kingdom of light and if we do not position our minds to be ready to face the battle, darkness will triumph over us.
However if we guard our minds, submit ourselves to the holy spirit to be our mental coach, resist the devil and his whims, study God’s word diligently, Train up our minds through Love and set our minds on things above then surely no amount of adversity will trump our Belief and Trust in God!
Ok now I’m done but before I go
Let’s say this prayer together….
‘Dear Abba, I thank you for sending your holy spirit to dwell in my heart, strengthen my inner-man to withstand whatever curve balls the devil may throw at me. In Jesus Name, Amen!’
