I remember writing this after someone I had a huge crush on and whom I had gone ahead to profess my attraction to her; my profession was met with a huge ELA!! “It is not you, it is me – I don’t think I am ready for any serious commitment” She said.
Jeeeeeeeesu! Omo…. O kami lara je!!!
I was downcast, distraught, heart ripped in 2 halves, all I could think about on that cold winter night of 2013 was why me, why can’t I just love and be loved. Well that question lead my wild and wacky mind to the following mental discourse.
I have recently been asked my opinion on the existence of love…… people have asked to know whether I believe in the word love. Happy to say my answer has been consistent and answered their questions to a reasonable level…… I think I would love to share my answer with you all my readers….
Well IBK’s true meaning of Love
Thinking about the word love in defining this I would like to refer to one of the most quoted bible scriptures (don’t stop reading here even if you are not a believer) every average ‘church goer knows this one’ John 3:16a)
For God so loved the world that he GAVE his only begotten son
I’ll stop there, do you notice i laid emphasis on the word ‘GAVE’ yes it was not a typo or a mistake.
Overtime people have misplaced the full meaning of the word love for feelings, butterflies in your belly, heart skipping a beat or in some cases stopping completely LOL ……. a quick blush or two…… goose bumps and chills down your spine…… or a Ferrari, Porsche or range rover on your birthday, Flowers to say I’m sorry, the latest apple products or 30 billion in your account, this is what we have come to know love to be in our amazing 21st century generation…
Please note: different people have different approaches.
I beg to differ. I do not think love is just a feeling or an extravagant show expressed by material things and luxurious gifts, it is a two thronged Sword if well sharpened can cut down whatever may present itself as an obstacle.
It should not only/necessarily be characterized by a feeling but also by a selfless action fueled by this feeling…… Love does not just stop at what you feel or how you feel but it should always go beyond that. The feeling of love is strong enough to let you share something of worth or value with whosoever you feel love towards God or human. The desire to spend all the time possible with your beloved and actually doing all you can within and outside your power to spend that time. The moment you find yourself being able to ‘climb every mountain, search high and low, follow every river’ all in the name of pleasing the person you love then you can claim to be in love.
Make no mistake Love is not always mutual after all God loves us so much and most of us do not return his love, in fact these days the mutuality of love has been so abused it has become very rare! Where mutuality is achieved then you can say true love has been attained……. however, it is possible to grow into it overtime.
Where you find yourself in a one-sided love scenario i.e you love and you’re not loved in return….Hmm well I suggest you go to the originator of this thing called Love to find out his own true opinion. Where Love is not reciprocated in a “relationship” you need to question this and critically evaluate.
Love your neighbors without expecting in return however when that Love is towards a greater goal of life partnership and you sense an absence of reciprocation well I suggest you take a step back and think what’s best for you and that relationship.
and yes, I believe in Love, more than anything else I am now in LOVE with God and my Beaut!!
